Announcing a new interest group and mailing list: Plone in the
Enterprise.

There is a growing interest in features for using Plone in Enterprise-
level deployments like:
- Scaling
- Enterprise search
- Integration
- Clustering and hosting solutions etc.

We are now launching a separate forum for the discussion of Plone in
the Enterprise.

There are already many interesting projects happening, and the sooner
we can join our efforts the better it will be for the world of large-
scale Plone. Let's share experiences, needs, war stories and help each
other on development of large-scale features:

The mailing list is available at
http://lists.plone.org/mailman/listinfo/enterprise

It should also be available in Gmane for those of us that prefer a
newsgroup interface:
gmane.comp.web.zope.plone.enterprise

If you care about enterprise level Plone, Please join us!

Thanks for setting this up. As a plone consultancy we are refocusing our
efforts on Plone for more complex content needs as I think Plone's core
strengths are really utilised for simple brochure type sites. We're
getting more and more enquiries for Plone for use as a knowledge
repository or for automating processes via workflow.

I'm just wondering if other companies are finding the same increase in
interest?

Hi,

we've started our business as a very technical team providing
consulting and development on workflow and other "complex needs";
probably because of that I've not noticed a "special" increase, but
for sure Plone can be an very valuable asset for that kind of projects.

My recent experience shows a growing interest in web-to-CRM
integration, user profiling and "community-style-sites" for medium-
large corporations.
Integration, in general, is for me a growing need of the market, and
something I'd like to work on.

regards,
Francesco.

Hi all,

I work for a  consulting firm that provides web development services
in Argentina. So far we developed online newspapers.

What changed last week is the fact that some people asked as to assess
the feasibility of migrating Lotus Notes databases to Plone.

I just wanted to say that, since there might be a huge opportunity for
the Plone community in that,

I've not had a direct customer enquiry but I've heard of Plone mentioned
as comparable in notes functionality (although I've had no experience
with this). My intuition would be that since Notes isn't in flavour but
there is a huge install base then a really strong Plone as a Notes
replacement story could bring in a lot of business.

I've just split off a discussion on the Plone developers list about
branding Plone as an ECM and not just a CMS. I think having a seperate
Plone brand for ECM Plone would be a great place to push this kind of
story. Please keep us informed about how it goes.

Dylan.

Wow! I started off life (in programming anyway) as a Lotus Notes
developer so that's an interesting development. I've found Lotus Notes
is an excellent groupware tool (process management, email,
colloboration, etc) but not such a good CMS (this may have changed in
recent times, though - last time I looked at Lotus Notes was R5).

As an aside, I did notice that this German Lotus Notes-related portal[1]
runs Plone. Case study here[2].

One last thing, I have noticed an increase in Plone uptake here
downunder, in larger deployments too (in terms of New Zealand anyway).

Thanks,
Tim

Done.
What is the advantage of doing this?

It makes it possible to read the posts at groups.google.com, makes the
content more likely to be found when doing a Google Search and gives
people a nice way to participate without necessarily needing to know
anything about NNTP or clutter up their inbox with lots of non-
critical email messages.
