Audacity Translators,

We've gotten some of the essential fixes done and are planning to
release version 1.3.5 on May 5. We have done a string freeze and would
like you to get translations to us by end of May 3. Richard has posted
the latest audacity.pot file to the website
(http://audacity.sourceforge.net/locale/).

Sorry for the short notice, but this is in mind of schedule for the
Google Summer of Code (GSoC) dates. We are also likely to release 1.3.6
by the end of May, before students start coding, so if you cannot make
this deadline, you may have another chance, but please aim for this one.
For the summer, we plan no releases, because so much code will be added
during GSoC.

I'm back now and ready to translate. But I have always the same problems :
1) I always get same error message :
11:22:52: C:\Users\Christian\Documents\Audacity\fr3.po:6196:40: invalid
control sequence
11:22:52: C:\Users\Christian\Documents\Audacity\fr3.po:6455:136: invalid
control sequence
11:22:52: msgfmt: found 2 fatal errors

2) I'm using PoEdit on a Vista PC but since 6 months I can't get an .mo
file, so I'm unable to test my translation.

3) Today I tried to update my translation from latest pot file but get
error message :
11:01:11: Cannot convert from the charset 'CHARSET'!
11:01:11: Cannot convert from the charset 'CHARSET'!
11:01:11: C:\Users\CHRIST~1\AppData\Local\Temp\poeF923.tmp:6196:40:

Without seeing your fr3.po file this is pretty much impossible to
diganose - can you mail the file to me?

Again almost impossible without being able to see the file. The fr.po
file in CVS updates from the current audacity.pot file quite happily.

Are your gettext and friends (msgmerge?) older than your copy of PoEdit?
I'm having a hunch that PoEdit has contrived to write something in the
file (fr3.po) that is not valid for the version of msgmerge you are
using, and this is causing the problem.

Not sure what is going on there. By some means the file had got two
escape sequences (\ and another character) in it, which was causing the
error. Having deleted them and put them back using my copy of PoEdit it
works fine - so I've no idea what the difference is, although I suspect
the character set in some way.

Should be fine - I'm using gettext 0.17 and (occasionally) PoEdit 1.3.6.

I've committed the fixed version of your translation to CVS, so you can
download the updated .po file (with current strings in) from
http://audacity.cvs.sourceforge.net/audacity/audacity-src/locale/fr.po?view=log
(current score 1424 translated messages, 48 fuzzy translations, 210
untranslated messages).

Now I can stop "blind" translation and I can see the effects of my translation directly in Audacity. That helps me a lot.
