strange recording graphics

Hallo,

I'm recording with audacity. When I record through the built-in sounds
card, I'm seeing graphics like the attached where everything is above
the central line. Playback sounds normal though. When I record through
an external USB card, graphics is centered towards the horizontal
line.

I wonder what causes this difference and can I make anything to correct that?

Thanks!

Hi
Looks to me you have a DC offset coming though, would depend on you system
but on board sound is not usually that good, most things you would plugin or
listen to would have AC coupling .  the USB is probably AC coupled so no
offset.
    THANKYOU DAVE-211

Fixed your mail =). Bottom-posting is easier to read, thanks.

My laptop's input gives a bit of DC offset as well, but in my experience
it doesn't seem to affect sound quality much, if at all, as long as the
recorded track didn't 'shift' between instruments which gave different
DC offsets.

I remember some (expensive) windows audio software allowed DC offset
correction, does Audacity support that through one of the plugins?

Thanks for all answers. It seems like the USB card is just having a
smaller offset. It's odd because USB card is powered only by USB and
internal card doesn't get any external power (nor the microphone)...
anyways plug-in seems to be working awesome!
