how do you stop the monster created by electing this steward who is absolutely going nuts?   everyday he complains and has a grievance.  Our office used to be a great place to work now he spends alot of wasted time on trivial crap.  I feel that he is not representing all the carriers with the best of interest for them.  I think it is a personal issue.  Someimes it is better to let the sleeping dog lie and not ask for things to be changed.  Remember to be careful what you ask for you may not like the consiquences

Management can stop the grievances by not violating the contract.  I would take an overactive steward or a complacent one anytime.

heres your solution kate-run for steward the next election and you may be able to pocket an additional 20,000.00 to your annual salary and represent ungrateful carriers like youself all the while donating a lot of your personal time-oh let me be truthful, you will not earn a dime more but the other two items you can count on

Whatever happened to working together and solving the issuy before the grievance is filed?  Discussion is the first step.  Sounds like this steward goes diurectly to the step 1 and doesn't even give anybody a chance to solve any problems.  We are a failing business and we all need to cut back so we still have jhobs to go to .  Remember the economy is not good.

Local management is micro-managed from above. The best way for them to cover their backside is not to agree to anything deny the Step1 and let someone else take responsibility. A few years ago a State Steward told me there was a time when he could settle most problems with a phone call, but he said that doesn't work most of the time now.

Management..being management...cant question a direct order to do things from above...EVEN if they dont agree with it...

It becomes the  Crafts responsibility to object and GREIVE the absurd commandments...Im totally with Gjtrista on this on..give me a NON complacent steward any day....

Those of you who think greivances are a 'frivolous" waste of time...what more can we say? you obviously fall into the "sheep" category and our beyond our help at this point. I do believe in being "reasonable" and trying to work through an issue before  it becoming blown out of proportion. However...turning a blind eye on things helps no one....when you begin to let them slide on the small things...they take CHUNKS next.
To err is human...to blame it on someone else shows management potential!
