sphinx pages vs wiki pages

Hi folks,

There were a couple of a posts on the user list yesterday where people
had been studying the old ShapeLab example on the wiki...
(http://docs.codehaus.org/display/GEOTDOC/09+ShapeLab) while missing
the new examples (http://geotools.org/examples/index.html).

This made me realize that I don't know what we're doing about
migrating pages from the wiki to sphinx, or even if that's the plan.
Has it been discussed previously ?

Michael

Questions about the old 2.4 XML encoding examples are another case.

For app-schema, I removed all my old seegrid wiki content and replaced
it with a link to the user docs. Until the old content is gone, google
will continue to index it.

Hi Ben

You're right, and at the moment it's much more likely that a search
will land in the wiki pages than in the new pages :-(

I'm happy to help update examples and migrate them to sphinx but is
that what we want to do?

I think so, as we migrate a doc from the wiki to sphinx we should kill
the doc on the wiki. If we want to be really nice we can can leave the
page on the wiki, and just clear its content leaving a single link to
the new version of the page.

Thanks for that Justin - leaving links seems like a good way to make
the transition less confusing.

Also, I had worried about the sphinx pages not being editable by users
as the wiki pages are, but then we hardly ever got any user edits.

OK, I've begun taking down old User's Guide pages and leaving notes
directing people to the new quickstart and examples. I hope that's
alright !

I've only vandalized the Welcome section so far.
