searches in uploaded pdf documents

Searches on Plone are supposed to see into uploaded PDF and Word documents. I uploaded a PDF to my Plone website and searched for a phrase that is appearing in the PDF. The search didn't find anything? Does this search need to be enabled first? If yes, where?
