Summary: Selection keys with AZERTY keyboard

Initial Comment:
Hello,

I use Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty with a French AZERTY keyboard to write Chinese.

I works quite well but when SCIM gives proposes 10 characters, I cannot select the right one with 1234567890 keys. I need to use the arrows and then press Space, which takes more time.
If I switch all Jaunty to a QWERTY keyboard, the selection works but a becomes q, w becomes z....
It just means SCIM does not recognize the numbers in a AZERTY keyboards as selection keys even if we declare a French keyboard in SCIM options.

SCIM was installed at the origin with Jaunty. I did not change anything. The bug was the same with Gutsy.

Does someone have an idea about this problem ?
Jerome

Hello,

I can confirm this problem.

Configuration: locale set to US standard locale en_US.UTF-8.
Keyboard set to French (AZERTY keyboard in scim setup / global setup.

Input method set to chinese pinyin. Here I get a numbered list of choices, but it is not possible to choose a number to input the caracter (neither with of without shift pressed).

However (and this is certainly interesting to narrow down the problem):

If I use Wubi input method, I get a numbered list of choices, too, and I just type the number key (without shift pressed) and it works.

It seems therefore that the bug is not in the general scim engine but rather in the pinyin input method.
