Summary: JPasswordField in Java Application doesn't accept input

With running SCIM, it's not possible to enter anything in password input fields in Java applications (class JPasswordField). Pasting text with the middle mouse button works, but the keyboard input is dead.
Tested with jdk1.5.0_17, jdk1.6.0_11 and jdk1.7.0.
System:
Fedora 10, 2.6.27.12-170.2.5.fc10.x86_64, running KDE.
Manually added several JDKs (jdk1.5.0_17, jdk1.6.0_11 and jdk1.7.0, all from Sun).
SCIM was automatically installed by a fresh Fedora10 installation - AFAIR scim.x86_64.1.4.7-35.fc10.

Sorry I cannot provide a test application here.
But probably you could try with the demo applications provided at
http://www.canoo.com/ulc/demos/.
One weird workaround to solve this problem:
1. On console execute javaws -viewer
2. In the configuration window select the option to open java console.
3. when running the application the console jumps out, close the console.
4. the password field can accept input now with scim running.
Seems to be a kind of focus problem.

The attached example program should be self explaining.
My test case was:
* Fresh installation of Fedora 10, no special customizations, SCIM was
automatically on board
* yum upgrade... yum install subversion
* Installation of several JDKs and NetBeans 6.5 from SUN
* svn checkout <my sources>
* Start <my Java application with password field>
File Added: PwdTest.java

Also reproduced here on KDE4.2 and Gnome2.2.4 on Kubuntu 8.10.
SCIM is the within the deb package of ubuntu source with version 1.4.7.
The Java application is Java web start under JRE 1.6.0_10, 1.6.0_11.
By quiting SCIM the password field works correctly.
