Started the release; 2.6-RC1 is now tagged.  This does mean that trunk
is available for work - please keep in mind that trunk should be held
for bug fixes until Friday.
Assuming the week goes well we can make a 2.6.x branch on friday.

Andrea - 2.6-RC1 is deployed now if you want to start your build. It
cut out 1/2 way through and I did the remaining modules by hand - so
if I missed one let me know.

Distributed archives (including javadocs!) uploaded to codehaus:

If someone can check the source and javadoc archive that would be great.

Some javascript/style in this post has been disabled (why?)
Release notes here:

I managed to catch a few issues that had not been closed in Jira; their may be more (so please check the above list).

Sub-task

  • [GEOT-1912] - unsup/imagemosaic-jdbc needs a full copyright and licensing review

Bug

  • [GEOT-2623] - Fail to read GBK attribute in dbf
  • [GEOT-2728] - NPE in SimpleFeatureTypeBuilder when using ShapeFileRenderer and "complex" Style
  • [GEOT-2739] - Cannot read metadata when not schema owner
  • [GEOT-2745] - LikeFilterImpl uses pattern matcher in non thread safe way
  • [GEOT-2752] - Improve requested resolution computation for mosaic when a reprojection is in the mix
  • [GEOT-2766] - DiffFeatureReader getIndexedFeatures fails with FastBBox filter
  • [GEOT-2768] - Upgrade to imageio-ext 1.0.4 to avoid JVM crashes under high load
  • [GEOT-2770] - ImageMosaic does not respect location attribute parameter
  • [GEOT-2772] - DataFeatureCollection.accepts method using wrong scale for progress listener

Improvement

  • [GEOT-1651] - AbstractGridCoverage2DReader should consider using both overviews and subsampling at the same time
  • [GEOT-2702] - Remove caching from coverage processing
  • [GEOT-2722] - Improve ImageMosaic performances by caching SPI
  • [GEOT-2753] - ImagePyramidFormat may choke when doing accepts on large files
  • [GEOT-2755] - Remove deprecations from FormatFinder workflow
  • [GEOT-2774] - Upgrade common pools to 1.5.3

I still need a volunteer to download and check the following:

I will announce tomorrow when I hear back about the above two links.

It is nice to have working javadocs again :-) Anyone have a server we can unzip them onto?

Jody

Some javascript/style in this post has been disabled (why?)
Going to attach the readme.html for review. We seem to lack a few key
instructions on the use of imageio-ext. And I have stopped listing the
content - and I am sure we can do a better job providing links to get
started.

Time for some collaborative editing?

GeoTools 2.6-RC1

Thank you for downloading GeoTools 2.6-RC1. This release was created on: October 11th, 2009.

This release contains only a subset of the current GeoTools codebase. The full GeoTools codebase is made up of over 30 modules; Only the modules which are considered to be stable will be included in this release.

For more information, and documentation on the GeoTools library please see our Community Wiki or the User Guide.

NOTE

The details contained in the rest of this file are provided as a quick start reference. For full details on requirements and build process please see the Developers' Guide.

REQUIREMENTS

To use the GeoTools libraries you will need:

  • Java 5 or higher.

GeoTools will benefit from the inclusion of Java Advanced Imaging (JAI) and the Java Image IO (JIO) extensions in your JRE. In addition some formats require the ImageIO-Ext additions which explicitly support raster formats such as MRSID and ECW.

You can obtain the latest versions of both of these here. Detailed instructions can be found here.

ORACLE REQUIREMENTS

In order to use the Oracle module, you need the Oracle JDBC driver from Oracle. Unlike most external libraries used in GeoTools, we cannot redistribute this jar.

However, you can obtain them from the Oracle website, free of charge, after registering: - http://otn.oracle.com/software/tech/java/sqlj_jdbc/content.html Please see the developers guide for more information.

BUILDING

In order to build GeoTools you will need a copy of Maven 2. Maven is a project management tool from the Apache group.

At the time of writing, the build process was known to work with the Maven 2.1.0 release.

Once you have maven installed, you can perform a full build by moving to the GeoTools folder and typing:

mvn install

Please read the Developers Guide for more information about maven:

GETTING INVOLVED

For general queries the [hidden email] is available.

If you are interested in the future development of GeoTools then feel free to join the geotools-devel mailing list.We welcome contributions of new modules as well as keen developers who want to work on the project as a whole.

You can find out more about the mailing lists and recent news by going to the GeoTools Homepage and by reading the GeoTools Guide.

Good luck and many thanks for your interest in GeoTools,

The GeoTools Project Management Committee, Open Source Geospatial Foundation

Hi Jody,

The source zip file looks fine and I just built it with -Dall successfully.

The javadocs look good !

On the docs, it would be great to get the module name on each page.
The way that the geotools javadoc plugin works, this requires the
@source tag to be added to the class header doc (if present).

Martin wrote something to do add the @source tag to files that don't
have it: CommentUpdater in the javadoc plugin. I could review this and
try applying it locally. Of course, it would mean a mass svn update
which people might not be happy about.

Thanks Michael for testing that !

I have uploaded to source forge.

Give it a go now - before we hit 2.6.0 (there is not going to be a good time).

We need to check and recheck our tutorial examples this week; and then print.

It is listed as one of the bugs closed for the release candidate.
Please check Jira for the list of bugs that are open.
