Alan, as you know, the longer a rural carrier works, the less they seem to earn.   The USPS controls and manipulates the count at every turn.    If elected, do you have any plans to addrees this issue so that we stop losing money every year and can be like other employees, who the longer they work the more they earn?    Along with step increases, there should be a minimum amount that you can make...Say you are a 43K, then your salary should not ever go below that amount.   Also, would you be willing to do away with the L route concept, since we all do the same job and should be paid the same for doing it.   All routes should be paid the same whether long miles or condensed city.   This too contributes to pay loss.

Just Alan

CT,
I think the larger issue here is we are a "piece rate" craft, whose work load is determined by a "window" of work, and is not computed over a years work load, which is do-able with this company's penchant for data collection. Please see my position on Mail Count reform, so graciously posted by PT. As for your L route question, I think this is one of the few correct decisions this Union has made in the 23 years I have been a carrier, it has grown the rural craft job oportunities, there are problems I have with it, but in the aggregate, I support it.
As far as fixing "salaries", that can/will happen if we go to the time clock, but folks with truly "rural, i.e. long mileage routes) won't like that for themselves personally, and frankly, I don't see the mind-set here that what is best for most is what we should do, too many of us are just looking out for ourselves, which is very problematical for a Union and solidarity.
