OK.   looking for some information.   Today I had a package for a customer that is a PO Box.   PM told me that since it's addressed to the street, I am required to take this package out and deliver it.    HUH????????   We sure didn't do THAT during count.   SO, I asked him how I was going to be paid for this, since the customer is a PO Box and not part of my box count.   Yes, he did send in a COA to be a box customer right after his wife died.    PM asked if he has a mail box at his residence.  I said yes, but, he does NOT get mail delivered there.    PM said that since it was addressed to the house, the customer MIGHT want it delivered there.  Duh.   so, I asked, why he would put in a COA if he wanted packages delivered to his door and not to the PO Box.    Even the supervisor said we didn't deliver PO Box packages to the door.

I found a reference stating we would deliver EXPRESS to houses on our routes, but nothing about packages.    Does anyone have any information about this either way?     This PM has decided we should be delivering stuff without any credit.   I think NOT.   This would open up a can of worms by forcing us to deliver (FOR FREE) any POB package that the customer doesn't want to pick up, even when we don't deliver the mail.    We're already forced to deliver express for free, since during the count subs took them out and we got NO CREDIT for them.   I am NOT about to start this with packages.

Been with the PO for almost 20 years and we've NEVER delivered a package for a POB to the house UNLESS the customer also got street delivery.

My steward has NO IDEA, but he does agree with me (but doubt he would do  anything about it.   OH, for the record, another carrier took the package to the customer's house.   He volunteered, so the PM gave him the package..  Funny thing is, he delivers in the other town (same office).     Too funny, but none of the carriers ever heard this.  We've always been told - no street delivery,  it goes to teh POB (if we know they have one).

Would love to nip this in the bud right about before it becomes a given, so if anyone has any info, please let me know ASAP.    Thanks.

We get that new PO Box/Caller Service markup credit.  The clerk throws the package to your route, and you get a markup for denoting that it goes in the box section.  You don't have to deliver this to their house unless they have street delivery.  They can have both street and po box delivery though.  I would tell the PM that if they want me to deliver packages to that address then I want that box added back to my route.  Maybe the customer does want both street and PO Box delivery.  Express mail is the only service that we have to deliver to the house if they have no box on the route.

We deliver ONE and ONLY ONE such item to the door ...and that is Express Mail. So,SEND IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(UAA) You should under no circumstances deliver it to the residence. If ordered to do so, you MUST submit a requisition for extra duty pay( I forget the #...8127 ?) After that is poo-pooed , you then MUST SMILE AND FILE!!!!

...BTW, noone has ever been able to answer the question of: Where do you leave the 3849 when you can't get their signature for such Express Mails?

read the po603, it says that all "special services mail", express, cert, reg etc, must be attempted at the door.
a step 4 decision states that customers without a mail receptacle to not get ordinary parcels delivered to the door. mark them up as "no mail receptacle"
note that priority mail and delivery confirmation are not special services.

They can have an inactive receptacle that they've even possibly fowarded out of to their PO box. So ,yeah, 'NMR' MAY work, but UAA either way.

Some of our rural PO box customers have started getting mail/parcels with their street (911) addresses.  They get a note telling them that if they want to continue to use that address then they need to put a box up at their home, otherwise they won't receive it.  If they decline to put up the box, then the mail gets returned no mail receptacle.

We're fortunate to have a PM that thinks every rural customer should have a box, whether they have a PO box or not.

From what we do - -  If they have it addressed that way  - - - is if it has a PO box #, we give to the PO Box clerk.  Then the customer gets the note about the parcel.  The only reason the street address is even on the parcel is,  the customer used a credit card, and parcels shipped using a credit card, must have a street address, or they don't even get shipped.  Therefore, it is just for the shipper's purpose to have a street address on the parcel at all.   That should apply to all parcels, except for the express.  Where to leave a 3849 if they have no mail box?  Well, I have stuck them in the door, or between the door.  Notified taken care of.  You could also leave a 2nd one in the PO Box as a back up.

One way we have been trying to get customers to use box # and not street is if they have to have a street address it goes the next line down from their name, the next line down is for the PO Box then the city, state and zip. The mail readers (automation) read from the bottom up so the PO Box is the delivery point of choice. unless of course they have dual delivery, which I always suggest as the best solution. And, yes, the threat of sending mail back NMR does make some put up a box.
