Hi all,

The new site is up at http://test.geotools.org.

The DNS entry for www.geotools.org from zoneedit has not expired yet so
that may take a bit longer. But we can use test.geotools.org as the
testing ground for now.

Any changes that are made in svn i can easily pick up by doing an svn
update on the web server. Just let me know.

Also, anyone who wants access to the server just let me know and I will
file a SAC ticket and Frank or someone else will get you access.

Hum, the background size is murder.
http://test.geotools.org/images/background_lower.png is 1.3MB, biggest
web background ever I guess ;-)

I've attached a relatively highly compressed, progressive jpeg,
that looks similar enough for being a background and is around 90KB
instead. Not sure if you want to use it or not, but gives an idea
of what can be achieved (its progressive nature should also provide
some "animation" effect on the slower connections, thought I'm not
100% that is compatible with all browsers)

Cheers
Andrea

Please do andrea; just commit it into the spike/web folder - I was
really happy to find the above png background and did not want to lose
any details - but now that we are targeting the web jpeg is the way to
go.

I am however impressed - even with a website you catch me out and tell
me how to make it go faster.

Andrea there before you know it.

justin can you update again? we seem to be missing the use/index.html

It's one of the "benefits" of a slower connection. When you see
a white background and then after a few seconds this new background
popups, well, something happened. The size of the image is the
prime suspect.

I remember when in order to get some money as a student, I was doing
static web sites in HTML 3 (with Netscape Navigator!).
The rule of thumb of the ISP I was working for was, no
page ever should be more than 50KB, html and images included ;-)

Cheers

Thanks Jody, that's coming along very nicely.

While I am no designer ( http://code.google.com/p/jai-tools/ proves
this :) I think it would be nice to have a bit of eye candy on the

Hi Justin; no objections (but you may need to talk to tylor if the feed
is going to change - since planet.osgeo.org is slurping up news posts).

Justin I have invited you to the blog a couple times now; I will hit the
button again (you need to accept the invite before I can give you admin
access; many other people on this list are admins for that blog so they
can help you once you accept (incase I am asleep).
