Hello to everyone,
We will plan on having the reunion on July 24th, 25th and 26th, 2009.  Friday night we can meet at a hotel/ motel in the Norfolk area. Saturday we will plan a ship visit if the ship is in port which it is scheduled to be as of now. Saturday evening we will have a get together at a community park. We are looking into the Fleet Rec park off Hampton Road. From there you can make plans with shipmates for later Saturday night and Sunday morning.  Note: the Nassau will be changing ships command so we will get out more info as soon as possible.   Please plan to attend and pass on the information.
Please contact me if you have any questions.    Thanks  John Tokarcik.

hey, this is Ken Stokes,i was a BT and had the pleasure of being a plankowner on the Nassau. I am looking forward to the thirty year reunion this summer.I worked in the aft hole and the oil lab until june of 81. I can't tell you enough how much fun it was to serve on the Nassau and with the crew that we had! I hope that all the hole snipes read this and at least get in touch with their old shipmates! I now live about 2 and 1/2 hours north of P'goula and go through there every now and then. It has changed a little but the living quarters on chico rd. is still in use. I have not been back to Norfolk since 81 but I do have fond memories of the town! Does any one remember Gary's Inn? Does anyone remember the carribein good will cruise and the talent show? How about the moron tabernacle choir rendition of IN THE NAVY? Any of you old hole snipes remember swimming in the fresh water tank while we were in the yards? Or how about the time the ship ran into the pier and ripped a big gash in the port side? Working in the hole was not that fun but i always say it was like high school with pay and i would do it all over again if i had the chance! Man thirty years just flew by! this is a great site and i look forward to hearing from all the mp div guys i served with.I hope you had as much fun and laughs with me as i had with you! write back asap! It will be a blast to see any and all who show up in July to celebrate the 30th year in commission of this great ship, it's hard to imagine she's turning 30.  I plan on attending with 2 guests and look forward to shooting the bull with everyone.  Anybody hear anything from Kevin "The Animal" Reynolds?  It will be great to see how well some of you have aged and of course catch up on what has happened with our lives/careers since 1979.  Contact me at thewarrant_5@yahoo.com .

Don't really know how to get around in these pages. Curious if there are any plankowning HT's around. Would like to attend, but I have one of those schedules that will make a last minute decision.
I left the ship in Aug 1980 while the ship was in it's first refit in Portsmouth.

NASSAU is hosting a spectacular 30 year anniversary Sunset Gala on the 25th of July (Sat), 1800-2000, onboard the ship at Naval Station Norfolk.  We hope to see many of the plankowners attend, the current crew will be onboard with static displays of the equipment and tools they use to make this warship tick.  The U.S. Fleet Forces Command band and jazz ensemble will perform, along with a super USO show.  Come out and meet today's crew and swap some sea stories about "the good ole days".  We have invited every former Commanding Officer and are looking hard for a list of former Command Master Chief's (if anyone has names/dates, email me!).  Please pass the word to all former NASSAU crewmembers:
Saturday, July 25th
6pm - 8pm
Onboard Naval Station Norfolk (pier TBD).
Uniform: Summer Whites (active military)
RSVP to: rsvp@lha4.navy.mil

We'll have heavy hors devours and other refreshments, and a great atmosphere to celebrate NASSAU's 30th year of active service to the greatest Navy and Nation!

Hope to see you all there.  30 Years as America's "Top Gator"
Very Respectfully,
CDR Dave Stracener, XO, USS NASSAU (xo@lha4.navy.mil)

CDR Dave Stracener,

Thank You very much for the invitation to the 30 year anniversary celebration of the USS Nassau on July 25th at 1800. My wife and I and possibly my son will attend this event, (John, Kathy, son Shawn Tokarcik).

I have been working with LT Rogers to ensure that this event runs as smooth as possible and to get all the information out to the previous shipmates so that the ships visit is well organized and successful. I do have several questions that should help with the visit which are as follows,

Can we visit any time on Saturday or Sunday, (within reason)?

Can we take pictures and videos on board?

Will we need an escort to see work areas or can we just tour the ship on our own? Example, I would like to see for and aft engine rooms, the bridge, ship store, mess deck, old berthing area, flight deck, etc...

What will be the hours of the ships store? Many people would like to purchase Nassau paraphernalia. Will the store be open during the 1800-2000 celebration?

Will we have time to tour the ship if we only attend the 1800-2000 celebration?

Can we schedule a time for group photos during the 1800 visit?

Is there a dress code for the ship visit?

What type of ID is needed for shipmates, guest, and family members to get on base, get on the pier, and get onto the ship?

I also had a request for the USS Nassau chaplains email address, could we have that?

Should I send you a list of names that have confirmed that they will attend? If so, who do I send that to?

Should I contact base security with a list of guests? If so, could you forward me the contact?

If you could answer these questions as soon as possible, it would help in clarifying visiting shipmates schedules for this weekend.

Here's what's in John's post. It's there but has black text which doesn't show up too well with a black background.
