Hallo,

I would like to be able to record voice and then add some music. For
the first task I got some useful replies on this list so thanks for
that!
Now I'm looking for the options to compose music. Searching I found
VioLet Composer. Is this a quality program? Are there any other good
options?

Ideally I'd like to be able to take a notes notation and enter into
the program and get a sound file I can import in audacity.

Thanks much!

I see VioLet Composer seems dead as well not very linux friendly. So
another requirement for me is to be able to run well on linux :)

After another research I found a few more candidates - MuseScore,
jMusic, LilyPond, RoseGarden, NoteEdit

Only jmusic seems not presented in my linux distro repositories
already :) But I'd like to hear how others are doing recordings and
then inserting arrangement. Again I'm not expecting to do something
proffi now but would like tools I use to be capable so I can improve
my skills.

Thank you!

I actually used LMMS to arrange my last song, then rendered groups of
tracks from it and imported them into Audacity for mixing and additional
recording.  It's really self-contained, has a decent selection of
instruments and uses whatever LADSPA effects you have on your system, and
lets you render tracks in non-real-time once you get them the way you want
them.  But to my knowledge, LMMS doesn't have a notation view which I think
you said you wanted in your first post.

LMMS will also let you record voice or instrument tracks from a mic, but I
would think you'd have a terrible time syncing up music to an existing
voice recording.  I laid down most of the song before adding vocals, and I
did those in Audacity.

Rob
