I found 2 products that seem to do what I want, which is to add links to all the popular social media sites like facebook, twitter, etc. On pypi I found

sc.social.bookmarks 0.8

and

I worry about the .8 viersion on the sc.social.bookmarks product -- and I worry about any plone addon products in general. so I'm looking for recommendations on which product is 'best' - ie has a future, has committed developers, has a lot of usage elsewhere, etc.

Can any make a recommendation for me?

Both have been pretty actively maintained and developed over the past
year.  Both are simple, well-made products that perform as advertised.
You can also use a third-party service like sharethis.net via
http://dev.plone.org/collective/browser/collective.sharerizer which is
an even simpler approach.

imo, it's not reasonable to worry about version numbers just because they
are < 1.0.  Some developers simply refuse to call something version 1 until
they believe it's _finished_.  That is usually a far cry from "eminently
usable".  Not that I know anything about the particular product :-)
