libxml2-python é incompatível com x86_64?

libxml2-python é incompatível com x86_64?
Estou instalando um ambiente zope, independente no sistema operacional
com os pacotes abaixo, e neste ambiente irei compartilhar o
zope298/plone255 e zope297/plone253, realizei com sucesso a instalação
em uma máquina com arquitera 686, entretanto não tive sucesso na
instalação com arquitetura x86_64, com o pacote* libxml2-python*.

estou fazendo a instalação do libxml2 no próprio diretório, compilando
todos os pacotes individualmente.
quero deixar esta instalação de zope completamente independente do
sistema operacional.

Este pacote estou instalando via fonte, compilando o pacote.
o que acontece é que quando vou compilar o libxml2-python ele não
encontra as bibliotecas.
mesmo eu passando o path como parâmetros na compilação.

    Você compilou o python com a opção "--enable-shared" ?

    Para 64 bits, essa opção deve estar habilitada. E o arquivo de libs
do python deve estar em ld.so.conf.

compilei com estas, passando as bibliotecas por flags.
./configure LDFLAGS="-L $PREFIX/lib" --prefix=$PREFIX --with-readline
--with-zlib --disable-tk --with-gcc=`which gcc` && make && make install
