Hi list,

I want to install the package libgeos-dev, but I am getting an apt-get error:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
  libgeos-dev: Depends: libgeos-3.1.0 (= 3.1.0-2~hardy1) but 3.1.0-2~jaunty1
is to be installed
               Depends: libgeos-c1 (= 3.1.0-2~hardy1) but 3.1.0-2~jaunty1 is
to be installed
E: Broken packages

I am running an Ubuntu 8.04 server with the according sources. I suppose that
there isn't a hardy package for libgeos-dev in the repo?

Is it ok to force install libgeos? Or is there some other solution?

Thanks
Frank

I think you are experiencing some confusions among jaunty and backported versions.
Check your repositories list.

Yes, somehow I managed to install jaunty versions of libgeos-3.1.0 and
libgeos-c1 ... don't know how. I replaced them with the hardy versions and now
it works

Many thanks
