Just wanted to say it was great to see everyone out at the meeting. For
a busy time of year we had a greats showing.

Some familiar faces of course and a special welcome to those of you that
came out for the first time or are still the new faces on the scene.

there was chat about some people interested in some GRASS workshops or
tutorials on other software.

What do people think?

Cheers

   I'm interested to learn more.

At work there are some "lunch and learn" sessions that are being hosted
by ESRI.  They use a combination of a remote desktop (MS Live Meeting, but
could just as easily be Citrix gotomeeting.com or similar) and a
conference call.

I've asked the organizer if we could continue these sessions later to
include the OSGeo components as well.  What I don't know is the details of
how that might be done.  In the case of ESRI they may be free and come out
of their marketing budget -- so now sure how to do the same for OSGeo
which doesn't have such a budget to dip into.

Hi All,

In case it is helpful, so long as it's open source software, I am happy to
enable workshops/lunch & learn sessions. This means filming, encoding, with
hosting included. All for $0.

I can do live webcasts too with a decent internet connection such as
cable/DSL or similar.

There's a bunch of examples on http://fosslc.org. Here's a recent example
(for OpenMoko, but you'll get the idea - demos/code/slides... it's all
good):
http://hosting3.epresence.tv/fosslc/1/watch/53.aspx?

I'm happy to do this. Please just plan it ahead of time with me so I can fit
it into my schedule. Thanks.

Andrew

Dave,

I'd also like to attend a GRASS workshop.

I think there a good chance that someone local might be willing to provide
a seminar on selected OSGeo projects for free if there was sufficient interest.

Best regards,

Scott,

Do you still have the modified GRASS tutorial kicking around?

Perhaps we can use this as a starting point and update it to current
(new) interface and such.

Seemed to work last time.

Unless someone has already updated it... It looks like they are still in
the Tutorial section of the wiki. Adding additional content right now.

Cheers

Scott,

I guess the other issue is access to the computer lab at Carleton while
you are gallivanting on your sabbatical (sp).

Or are you still going to be around in spurts...

Hey Folks,

I had a request to include something about PYTHON in the GRASS workshop
or future workshops.

So this prompted me to drop a line to the local Python Author Users
group in town.

I have a topic for a presentation for any python wizards out there...
"sorting through all the python GIS possibilities"

There are lots...

And then there are libraries with python bindings.

And then there are plugin API's that allow for python.

So where would one start? I have gone in one direction, but it might not
be the best.

So I would like to learn, and perhaps there is interest in the group to
learn more too...

Before getting into python stuff, some people might need an intro to
python...

So, So So,.....

What: people in our group are interested in python,
Ottawa has both a geosptail group and python group
So what: Could we have a series of presentations and workshops getting
users from Zero to scripting guru.

Now What: I would like to stay focused on some of the other workshops,
so is there someone who wants to learn about geo Python by organizing
all this?  You need to know nothing about python, but it would help if
you WANT to learn and share. Think of it as a small research project.

And something to check out is this video concerning geodjango
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOaimbSe6n8) for those who want to bring
python, GIS and the web together (for those Web 2.0 and mashup fans and
community mappers in the crowd).

Who is up for the challenge?

Cheers
