For better labelling over polygon layers that present oddly shaped polygons it would be nice to have a "biggest inscribed circle" algorithm that tries to put the label in the widest area inside the polygon as opposed to the centre of gravity.
This could be implemented efficiently by superimposing a grid on top of the polygon and marking all the cells that are inside the polygon, and then implementing a progressive "erode" algorithm that would point at cells that are the farthest away from the polygon borders
