| Subject: [Audacity-help] i need an mp3 codec!!
| thank you!...for the lame link!!!!.... dont understand why my
| request was so hard to understand??
We will not go on explaining this. We are not prepared to put the entire
content of already existing support documents into emails unless the user
is experiencing difficulty after having read them *and* is prepared to let
us help them by telling us their operating system and version of Audacity
when asked to do so (so we can put only the text relevant to their system
in the email). The only exception would be if users explained to us they
had problems using a browser or accessing the internet.
| I installed vesrion 1.2.6 yesterday when i first came on your site
| yesterday..... i first read about 1.3.3.having all these awesome new
| features! .... thinking yes! its he newest version to upgrade to!!...
| then while looking for the codec to save as mp3 i saw where it
| said 1.3.3 was unstable!!... you should remove it for download from
| your site so someone wont download it by mistake!!.. like i alsomst
| did....................
So that you are clear, 1.2.6 is essentially based on older, stable code but
the point I was making is that where there are different series numbers of
programs on a site (e.g. 1.2, 1.3) it usually means that one is stable and
one is experimental. Sometimes the stable version can actually be of more
recent release date than the Beta (e.g. if an urgent fix to a problem with
the stable code has been released). All you need to know is that the latest
available versions of both the stable and unstable lines will always be
available on the site - older versions of each line will be removed.
The Beta line is there for the purpose of users who are already experienced
with the stable line, would find the new features in the Beta useful and
are prepared to give us feedback on how well the program works in their
hands, so that we can fix problems that arise before the code is released as
stable. Many users do use the Beta and help us by reporting such problems,
and accept its unstable, unfinished nature as is clearly stated on the Beta
download page. When the Beta 1.3 line is fully stable it will be released as
the next stable version (1.4.0) and the benefits of having it previously
available as a public Beta release should be evident in it being far more
useful and stable than if it had just been released into the wild without any
significant user feedback about it.
