I am still semi-debating with myself wheter or not I can justify the
jQuery update in the 3.1 branch as well.. :-) It is, after all, a
point release of jQuery.

After a brief discussion with Hanno and another trawl through the
bugs-fixed list I decided that the 3.1 branch will get the new version
too. The performance improvements are nice, but the Safari hiding bug
is a must-have, as are others. The added features are small and
non-intrusive (no backwards-compatibility problems).
