compass coil modification

I will mount my compass scanner on a straight shaft. But the coil I have now is not he best anymore. Would it be possible to replace the compass coil windings plus cable and plug into another coil? I would prefer a spider type of coil. For example a fisher, tesoro or even bounty hunter coil? Would it be possible and what coil type would be the best?

Hi Eric, well first off maybe you could explain what you mean by the coil "is not the best anymore". I'm no expert but I don't believe the windings could be configured to work right in a spyder coil. Maybe you could explain a little better the problem with your coil. Paul or Keith would then most likely be able to give you more information or help.
