commit access motion - now or once we move to SVN?

Dear All,

Eric Patton has been doing a good job improving GRASS
documentation by providing patches and maintaining a
dedicated WIKI page. In communication off-list Eric and I
aggreed that granting him write access to GRASS code
repository would smooth out the doc updating process. What
does the GRASS team think about it?

This is not an official motion for votes yet. As migration
to SVN at OSGEO is planned, I wanted to ask first if such a
motion makes sense at the moment, or should it wait until we
move to SVN. Opinions?

Maciek

I am in favor of it wherever it makes most sense from a logistical point of
view.

I am all for it, but I expect the migration to SVN be started next week
if all technical problems are solved. Currently I am not in sync with Martin
about these details. He always waits for feedback from GRASS developers
about the migration.

deciding on granting access is a totally separate issue than acting on the
result, so I see no need to wait.

Hi Maciej,

do you want to make it a motion? I guess that Eric would like
to start...

OK. This is an official call for votes on granting Eric
Patton commit access to GRASS source code repository.

Eric has been doing a good job improving GRASS documentation
by providing patches and maintaining a dedicated WIKI page.
In communication off-list Eric and I aggreed that granting
him write access to GRASS code repository would smooth out
the doc updating process.

+1 from me.

Not yet (but hopefully soon):

The motion was AFAIK missing the vote closure date. The person motioning
(here: Maciej) will collate votes and publish the result.

Motion for granting Eric CVS write access passed with votes

Michael and me.

Eric, please follow the instructions at [1]. Welcome and all
good luck!

The only document regarding voting proceduure I know of is
RFC 3 [2], and it does not mention vote closure date issue.
Should it? BTW - the RFC 3 is not accepted yet.

Yes. For now as good practice, in future coded in the RFC.

once the migration is done (next week?), we can work on things
like this. In this regard I also think that it might be useless to
request CVS access now since we have to do it again next
week or so for the SVN.

As earlier noted, I feel RFC3 still needs a rewrite before it is ready for a
vote. And yes, I still need to dig out my attempt at doing that. (there's a
good chance that was lost in my HD crash last month and ideas need to be
recompiled from the mailing list threads)

In that case, I'll work on some doc updates locally and wait for svn access once the dust has settled - sounds ok?
