Hi guys,

As part of Veda's upcoming theming book, you may know that I volunteered
to write a chapter on Deliverance / xdv — on the condition that I made it
available on plone.org, and separately gave them permission to publish my
version in the book.

It is now available for your reading pleasure:

http://plone.org/documentation/manual/theming

There are a couple of things you should know before subjecting this to the
standard process:

- Until Veda has said that it's OK, we shouldn't make any changes to this
document, as she will be copying this into the print-ready version. So we
can't have any unfinished sentences or notes in it just yet.

- Once Veda has given her OK, it's fair game for editing and expanding —
although I'd appreciate a heads-up if you do, so I can help out where I
can.

- The document is relatively brief, it doesn't walk you through an
end-to-end theming exercise, but gives you all the information to
experiment with it on your own. An idea would probably be to have a
companion piece (or section) for people that need hand-holding every part
of the way of the actual HTML/CSS theming process.

Hopefully this will fill some of the missing void around Deliverance and
collective.xdv, and make transform-based theming accessible to a larger
audience. I also spend some time talking about what the differences
between the different approaches are, and when to use one or the other.

I won't push this to the review queue until Veda has signed off on it —
but feel free to read it and offer your comments and
improvements/corrections here on the list in the meantime!

You have to volunteer to be come a doc section editor.

It comes with a lot of roles and responsibilities and we do still need
people: http://plone.org/documentation/how-to/plone-org-documentation-editors-roles-and-responsibilities

Aside from that, you'll just have to wait patiently until Veda and
Anne (the section editors for theming) have a chance to review it and
publish.

awesome work, esp on making the deal to get that quality of
documentation on plone.org. I don't think the publishers normally
allow this right?

That's why we did it the other way around: I wrote it, donated one version
to Plone Foundation, and a separate donation to Packt. I hold the original
copyright, just as with code — and we share the ownership.

Packt are pretty cool when you ask them in the right way. :)

We're just about there -- I'm rolling in Alexander's changes and Anne's
suggestions now, and then we're happy to let you take a look, Engolpe. I
just need it to stay slightly stable until I have a chance to rip it down
into Word format.

I'll send out a note when we're ready to have you take a look, and we'll
just make sure that we update the Revision History section if you have
comments. It'll likely be early this week. Do you have editor rights,
Engolpe?

Thanks!

I've just created the ticket #9341 to track this and assigned it to Veda.

Veda, please keep us updated. :)

Yeah. FYI, I'm still waiting to find out if the lxml binary egg works. I
swear I'll publish this soon. I just haven't had a chance to try out
installing collective.xdv myself... If someone has time to verify that the
egg works, we can publish this.

Any takers? Encolpe?

It works. :)

Pin lxml to 2.2.2 and make sure you don't have any other lxml 2.2.2 eggs
in your cache.
