Here are a couple thoughts for blog post anouncements:
- use it to communicate fun community activity to a wider audience
- the blog post is picked up by news feeds so publish is a one shot
deal (or we will get dropped by said news feeds for being annoying)
- save in draft form and ask on this list if you would like a review
- we are occasionally asked to post things by OSGeo or FOSS4G committee etc...
- do not post IRC logs; not suitable as "news" for wider audience

Is there any way to do a minor non-notifying edit, such as in Confluence
or TWiki?

Save in draft; others on this list can review before you publish.

Note we had to drop our confluence blog post for the same reason (any
time we renamed a page all the pages that had a link would be updated
and would jump to the top of any news feed).

Remember these are news posts - not a discussion :-)

OK, that sounds good to me. I think we should adopt the rule that the
original author makes the final publication decision, unless they agree
otherwise. (This gives us a single point of contact.) Now that I know
what happens behind the scenes, I'll keep my twitchy fingers away from
the publish button.

But how do we edit past news to give the impression of foresight and
planning?
