I think it is still not possible to parse UTF-8 encoded files containing
multi-byte chars and the tutorial is not compilable. I wrote some time
ago about these issues and provided a patch for the tutorial.
You sent the patch to me, not to the list. I unearthed the mail and committed your patch.
I'll also have a look at the UTF-8 problem you raised.
