Words dissappear as they are typed

We are using an older version of EditLive! (5.0.8.30).  Some users are experiencing a problem when they type words into the editor they dissappear as they are typing them.  If you highlight over the blank area, the words are there and show up, you just can't see them as you type them.  Anyone have experience with this?

It could be an incompatibility with Java 6?  I haven't really seen  
symptoms like that before but 5.0.8 is really quite ancient (it's at  
least 4 years old).  The first step to any solution is going to be  
upgrading so I'd give that a shot.  If you have a current maintenance  
subscription the upgrade is free - you'll just need to log a support  
request to get an updated license key.

We used to see exactly this problem when running 5.x -- we upgraded to
6.x and the problem went away, so we always assumed it was an issue
between a certain version of the JVM and ELJ...

That definitely sounds like the bug we found in the editor when Java 6  
was released.  Upgrading is unfortunately the only option here; now  
that version 7 has been released we don't support version 5 anymore.

My apologies for being a bit harsh on that one - I've been informed  
that we can at least give you the latest build of version 5 which does  
fix the Java 6 issue.  However for ongoing support we highly recommend  
upgrading.
