Howdy all. I'm a forester in NC running Windows XP. I'm trying to obtain some kind of GIS program in order to produce maps, measure acreage, track forest changes, etc. Initially, I was going to buy ArcView, but a friend suggested trying GRASS instead. I'm fairly computer literate when it comes to most things, but as for writing code, creating directories, using UNIX, etc - I'm pretty ignorant. My question is this: do I have a chance of using this program, or would I be better off buying something where I don't need to know much. Any advice would be appreciated.
