Another thing I realized:

The main MuseScore folder is located in a restricted part of the disk:
C:\Program Files\MuseScore 0.9

Limited accounts have read-only access to the "Program Files" folder.
User-specific data such as templates and plugins would normally be here:
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\MuseScore 0.9

Hi David,

That's a find.
Seems to overcome the problems I have had displaying scores.

Thank you.

The special score fonts MuseScore uses are compiled into the program binary.
This eleminates the need to install these fonts and there are no problems with
matching the font version with the program version.
The demo file (promenade) is also compiled into the binary (the demo file
is visible without the need to install mscore first on linux).
So the user needs only read access to the program binary which should be
no problem.

I just tried with windows vista and mscore 0.9.3. Started from a normal user
mscore died after the splash screen. Then i compiled a special version with
console debug output. This version worked ok starting from admin and from normal
user -- weird :-(

A similar problem was reported on the forum today: http://musescore.org/en/node/287#comment-123
We will really need to investigate the font/administrator issue.
