Windows 0.9.2.
I was editng a score (my first one).  The program crashed.
Now when I open any midi or msc file, nothing is shown, even when I open the demo file.  Just a grey area is displayed where I expect the score to be.
I uninstalled and re-installed MuseScore, but it makes no difference.
Is there an option I am overlooking ??
Any other tips, please??

Neil.

I've never seen this behavior.
Can you tell us the Windows version you use ?
Maybe you can try a development snapshot : http://prereleases.musescore.org/

Thanks for your response.
Windows XP SP2.
I tried 2 of the pre-releases, including the latest one, and got the same result.
I noticed a message when cancelling one install of the software which suggested it's written in php-gtk.
I already have this installed on my computer, and am doing some php-gtk2 development.
Any chance this could be getting in the way ?
I have a path setting of c:\gtk, which is where Glade is installed.
I removed that path, but it made no difference.

Nothing .. I guess I can't help more ...
As far as I know MuseScore is not related to gtk at all. It uses Qt as graphical framework.
I don't know if it relies on something on your platform.
If you have a blank page maybe it's a font problem ?

Sorry, I can't help more :-/

Hello,
sorry my bad english.
I have the same problem, and have also XP SP2 installed.

But my Musescore has never crashed.. It only does not display the notes and rests buttons, and displays not the new score.

I can play and hear the demo files.

I tried to install latest versions, and the same problem occurs.

I tried also to uninstall, clean the registry and install again, and I have no sucess.
I use a portuguese translation.

Anybody can help?

I have a friend with same problem.

There is any program that I must install, as a pre-requirement? Some canvas drawer, or plugin... or font?

Thank very much,

Daniel Volpin.

Hi Daniel,

Could you upload a screenshot of the program after you just start it up? (you can use the free clip2net program)
Before you do so, make sure you installed the latest prerelease.

Thx
Thomas

Hello, Thomas. Thank you very much.

i have installed the version 0.9.3 (R 1057).

I take 3 screenshots, one when the program just start:

1221340602-clip-14kb

the second, when creating a new score, the program asks for a key signature
(I haven't seen this problem before, because my old version don't have this step)

1221340665-clip-37kb

and the third, after the new score was created, and o opened another file (demo):

1221340728-clip-14kb

Thank you very much again,
Daniel Volpin.

Hi All,

I wonder if this problem is related to the paths mscore is trying to use find images etc.

If I remember correctly, the default image path is :  ~/mscore/images
I can't find where this directory exists in my Windows XP 0.9.2 installation.

Likewise the directory path for the instrument list: instruments.xml

Also what is the complete file name of 'demo', and where is it stored, please?

Thank you.

Neil.

As stated by Werner in http://n2.nabble.com/Advocating-MuseScore-tp790841p1094596.html , it's possible this is a QT issue. But apparently, no one has a clue so far. So, we might have to wait for the new musescore build using QT4.4.1

In the meantime, lets keep on eye on this issue.

There are some icon related files in
C:\Program Files\MuseScore 0.9\bin

In the source files there are images in the directory: ~\mscore\mscore\data
All the icons that are visible in Daniel's screenshot are located in the
data directory as svg files.
http://clip2net.com/clip/m0/1221340728-clip-14kb.png

I'm not sure where the other icons come from. Are they generated from a
font?

Hello, everybody.
Thanks very much again.

I don't know if it helps, but I made some steps, without sucess:

1) The first time I run the program, it crashes, without error messages.
2) I have not found any of the directories you say; but i found manually the promenade example in the (preferences - general - start with score) item, and the program starts with title bar MuseScore: promenade.

3) I have another computer, older, and it haves the same winXP, installed from same CD, and in this computer, the MuseScore runs normally, and the MuseScore directory structure is the same.

4) I tried then several itens:
Run Windows in security mode,
in depuration mode,
in VGA mode,
change the video properties to less colors,
then less resolution.

I tried compatibility mode with Win95, Win98, Win2000, NT.
I installed the SP3.
I killed all processes from task manager, one by one.
I search all the registry, a few times.
I tried to change some registry settings manually.

I made copies of all Musescore .dll files, and others extensions, to some places: to windows\system32, to Musescore directories, to windows dir.

And nothing works.
Why works on another computer, with same system?
Perhaps another program installed? Or other processor architeture?

Well, sorry if my info is not relevant, i don't know if it can really helps.
Thanks again,
Daniel Volpin.

Thanks for all your responses.

I've noticed something else now.
When I go into Edit|Preferences|General that in the 'Languages' section at the bottom is a red message: 'Attention: requires a restart of Musescore'.
When I restart, the message doesn't go away.

By the way, the problem of Musescore not displaying the scores went away for a couple of days, but is now back again.
While it's working properly, Musescore is great to use.

0.9.3 seems to be released and Qt has been upgraded from 4.4.0 to 4.4.2 for the windows release.
You should try it, maybe it solves your problem.

If you change the language in the preferences a restart is required
before the language will change. Don't worry about the red text. It is
always there. I can see how this could be misleading.

I was able to duplicate this behavior:

If you log on using an administrator account then MuseScore works
without a problem.

If you log on using a limited account then the (font-based?) icons
appear blank matching the screenshot Daniel provided earlier in this thread.

In case this information is related or helpful: I have noticed that the
mscore fonts are not installed in the Windows font directory. MuseScore
is the only program that can make use of them.
