This is the place to ask me any questions that weren't answered on the site.

Do you know of any sites that will provide a reference for an affordable fee? I found one earlier but they wanted to charge me $30.

The $30 that you quoted is a reasonable price.  The job reference services out there run from that all the way up to $250.

You may want to take them up on it and go for it.

let me know how it works out for you.

No worries. Did you try the link on my web site?  Their reference service starts at $175.

Your best bet is to have a friend give you the reference.  With all the companies that have gone under in the last year it's not uncommon for old bosses to be working at other companies.

Readers of this site have shared their success stories of giving out a friends name and claiming that their friend was a former supervisor at a now defunct company.

Let me know how things turn out for you.

The other possibility is just putting down a company that has shut its doors permanently.  With all the companies dropping like flies this year, it would be very plausible.  The mortgage industry has been especially hard hit.

A few years back when World Com went belly up, I received several emails from people writing that they had successfully used them as a previous employer.

Remember, at the end of the day, your goal is to put together a story that makes sense and doesn't set off any red flags.

Thats no joke. The mortgage industry is primed to be used for fake resumes. Including mine. LOL! Im going to do some research on these companies and make some changes.

I think its important to let everyone know how valuable public libraries are. Not just for gathering job leads but also contacts. Go to the reference area and you can access hoovers and the d&b for free.

Thanks, your suggestion regarding using the library is great advice.  In this Internet age, many have forgotten what a great resource your local library can be.
