First post!

Hello all.

I have no idea who is on this list yet, but i think this is problably
a good time to say hello :)

I am Geir Bækholt. I work for a Plone consultancy called Plone
Solutions in Norway. I have worked with Plone since it's early start,
but do more communications than code these days.

I have no idea who else is already subscribed to this list. Feel free
to say hello. This list is going to have a lot less traffic than
plone.users :)

Opening discussion:
What language preferences do we have for the plone-scandinavia-list?
does this forum cover Finland/Iceland too, so we should keep it in
English, or should we aim to keep it in Norwegian/Swedisn/Danish?

I'm Morten Petersen and I work for a company called Nidelven IT, we do
hosting and consulting related to the Plone system.  We've been around
for a long time as well.

Well, the email Alexander Limi sent out before this list was setup said
"Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Denmark) - but IMHO we should include
Finland and Iceland too.

And then it makes sense to do it all in English, since the people from
Finland and Iceland speak quite differently than the
Danish/Swedish/Norwegian members..

Hi.

I am Arnar Lundesgaard and I work for Bouvet, a Norwegian consulting
house with just over 300 employees. My group works almost exclusively
on and with open source software. We are currently  6-8 developers,
depending on how you count, with some project managers, graphical
designers, interaction designers and senior advisers available when we
need them.

While we use Zope and CMF extensively, we have not gotten around to
using or deploying Plone ourselves. We have recommended it to some of
our clients though and it is one of the systems we are hoping to
adopt.

Our real platform is Topic Maps[1], a knowledge representation
standard designed for interchange that has become quite popular here
in Norway. (Topic Maps are similar to RDF but has some other
properties that we find appealing.)

We are hoping for an opportunity to make Topic Maps available through
Plone in some way, but "vanilla" Plone is also interesting as a
platform on its own.

I am comfortable with any of these. :-)

Technically, Scandinavia doesn't include Finland and Iceland, but we're of course happy to have them here if they can live with the occasional norsk/svenska/dansk posting. :)

As for language, my suggestion would be to let people use whatever they are comfortable with — ie. I expect most of us to post in English, but we should explicitly state that people can post in their native language if they are more comfortable with that — that's half of the reason for having the regional forums, after all. The other half is to share news, tips and organizational details (user groups etc) that are particularly relevant for these geographical areas.

And meeting up for a beer for those of you who are located in the same city sounds great to me, I'll toast you from San Francisco. :)

I'm Helge Tesdal, a colleague of Geir at Plone Solutions. I've been working with Plone since 2002, mainly programming.
