Today started with the report of the Mileage and Per Diem Committee. For those that don't know, this is a report of what the Nationally paid delegates get.
Then Micheal Gan gave his presentation, see my report on the State Officers Seminar on Aug 4 for details.
Then came the nominations:
President:
Don Cantriel
Alan Ver Valin
Vice President:
Jeanette Dwyer
Nik Sandman
Secretary/Treasurer:
Clifford Dailing
Larry Gunnell
Director of Labor Relations:
Bill Gordon
Joey Johnson
Director of Steward Operations:
Ronnie Stutts
Executive Committeeman (4 year term):
Bobbie McDonald
Susan Knapp
Terry Leeper
Don Matson
Barbara Williams
Thomas Keys
Bridget Boseak
Robert Horne
That ended the morning session. The afternoon began the report of the Constitution Committee. The following Constitution changes passed:
1. Language on membership restrictions (Article III Section 3) to bring it into line with Labor Law
2 Language added to Article III Section 9 to tighten up some meanings.
3. A change that brings the Delegate count for National Convention to cover craft members that the Association represents .and not include associate members.
4. A Combined Credentials and Mileage and Per Diem Committee.
5. Language inserted on the process on what is to happen when a steward takes a management position
6. 2 on clarifying time frames on appeals (State level and National level)
7. Clarification on who gets mailed a ratification ballot.
The big things that failed were:
Biennial Convention - wasn't even close this time.
Officer Salaries fluctuating with the results of the mail count- only 6 people voted for it.
Changing the Convention format from a proportion based on number of members to 3 per state- This was proposed by a small state and got even less votes than Officer salary amendment got.
That's all for today. There were 36 Constitution changes and only 8 passed.
I need to make a note here. Tomorrow, along with the doing resolutions all day (and there are a lot of them), is also caucus night. As you can see there are a lot of candidates for National office this year. It's going to make for a very long night. My update will be very late in arriving. Also, Don't be surprised if my Friday update gets posted on Saturday. with all but one office being contested, the election of officers will take awhile to complete. Plus, I do have to make the drive home (7 hour drive here folks) so I could end up making it home by 1 or 2 in the morning so please don't panic. I'm not stopping my updates. It's just the days end up getting to be very long the next 2 days so I just ask that you bear with me please.
