"Meat In A Park lets you find nearby public BBQ locations and promote
your own BBQ plans via Facebook..."
"...most of the data comes from local council sites..."
"...you can add details of your own favourite BBQ locations..."

See their acknowledgements page for a list of data sources:
http://meatinapark.appspot.com/acknowledgements.jsp

Presumably the licensing would first need to be checked for each of
these sources, for compatibility with OSM.

What a cool idea... could be expanded to other POIs like swimming pools!

I imported the locations of all the picnic sites in the ACT to OSM as tourism=picnic_site with barbecue_stove=true. These were released on data.australia.gov.au under a Creative Commons licence.
Unfortunately Mapnik and Osmarender don't seem to have graphics for tourism=picnic_site or amenity=barbecue (Mapnik does have a landuse color if you make a polygon of a picnic_site). I would have thought they would already have a nice icon like this CC licenced one: http://google-maps-icons.googlecode.com/files/picnic.png

There doesn't seem to be a well documented tag for barbecues, I looked before.

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:tourism%3Dpicnic_site

And in tagwatch there are some barbeques, barbecues, and bbqs. And grills and stoves.

Sorry can you fill me in a bit - who/what is JS, what's tincanmaps, and is amenity=bbq an official tag now, or just for Australia? Can we put it in the wiki?
