WG: getting R, gstat and spgrass6

Dear grass stats members,

 

I usually work with GRASS in QGIS. Now I have to use R for statistical analysis. Do I have to download and install R and work with its interface? Do I need QGIS anymore?

Where could I find a stepwise guide to come from QGIS and GRASS to R and gstat?
