I know how Veterans Preference is used in the hiring process, but does having veterans preference apply to any other benefits for an RCA. Basically is being an RCA with veterans benefits mean anything?

Veterans preference got you the job, and thats it that I know of.  If you become a regular, and are a retired veteran, you can use any combat time you had added to your regular carrier credit time for leave purposes only. RCA time will not count. Which if you had a lot of combat time is worth the paperwork.   But you have to be retired military to get it, not just being a vet.  If there is something else worth while, I don't remember it.

For an RCA getting the extra points is the only veterans benefit I know of. As a regular you can buy back service time toward retirement. Your pay during your service time and how long you have been out determine how much it will cost you. My three years cost me $450. I also started with the PO at the 20 day leave level.
