Dear all,
this is what i get on the windows console when I start grass.
I am unable to digitize the raster layers.

C:\>"D:\OSGEO4W\apps\grass\grass-6.4.0svn"\etc\init.bat -wxpython

WARNING: Vector digitizer is not available (No module named _grass6_wxvdigit).

Any suggestions!

Tks!
Ambrish

simply wxGUI extensions (vector digitizer & 3D view mode) are not
working under MS Windows, see [1].

QGIS: Segmentation fault

Hello,

a few days ago, I wrote a message to the german GRASS List. I have
trouble by startung QGIS using Linux 9.04. I've installed QGIS first
some month ago, and the programm worked without any problems. But now,
when I start there is the Startup Windows but then it shut down. The
Terminal gives the error message: Segemtation fault.

Because of this error I updated the former Version 1.0.xx to the
unstable 1.3.0 from this Launchpad sources:

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/unstable/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/unstable/ubuntu jaunty main

But the error message is still the same as before. So I think it's not
really a problem of the installed version. Do somebody know this and can
give some advice to solve it?

Benedikt

if you update from the UbuntuGIS repository make sure you update GDAL
and GRASS from there as well.

what does this say:
$ dpkg -l grass qgis 'libgdal*'

?

Dear Hamish and Benedikt

I appologize to join to this discuss, but I have the same problem as
Benedikt.
Since I have been changed to linux mint(ubuntu 9.04) from SUSE 11.1 I can
not start qgis. (either 1.2 nor 1.3)

the Qgis is stopping with the same segmentation error immediatelly after
the Python modules are loading into

the dpkg list which you have asking for in my system is the following:

yes, to see what versions of the packages you have installed.
pull the terminal wide enough so that the full version number shows.

to follow Alan's advice, try upgrading and see if there are any
new packages waiting in the UbuntuGIS repository.

I've installed the newest QGIS packages allready. But I don't think the error is connected with these version. I had the same before with version 1.0xxx. I didn't use QGIS the last month, so I don't know how long it won't work. But as in installed these version 1.0xxx it worked fine.

Hello András,

it's no reason for apologize. Yes, that's exactly the same. Unfortunately I have no idea how to solve or what's the reason for it. So let's hope someone can help us. ;) I can install QGIS for Windows but I won't if I can avoid it.

Some greetings
Benedikt

where does 1.3.0-1~jaunty6 come from? AFAICT that doesn't
exist yet from UbuntuGIS. Are you using another source?

> I've installed the newest QGIS packages allready. But I

the latest from ubuntuGIS repo are:

libgdal1-1.6.0_1.6.2-3~jaunty1
grass_6.4.0~rc5-3~jaunty1
qgis_1.3.0-1~jaunty3

all three need to be updated & in sync. You can't use a latest
QGIS with an older GDAL library. The ABI will have changed and
the result will be a segfault.

as this is not a GRASS matter it should continue on the
UbuntuGIS mailing list:   http://lists.osgeo.org

Hamish

Ahh, ok. Now I'm clear what you mean with ubuntuGIS. I didn't known it before. I used these sources for installing QGIS:
https://launchpad.net/~qgis/+archive/unstable

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/unstable/ubuntu YOUR_UBUNTU_VERSION_HERE main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/unstable/ubuntu YOUR_UBUNTU_VERSION_HERE main

If there is a package source specially for Ubuntu-Users which include some usefull GIS Programs I'd like to use it. But I can't find package sources on ubuntuGIS. There is only these remark: "This PPA does not contain any packages yet."

2 repos on launchpad, it's confusing I know. Also there is
Jachym's grass+gdal package repo in the mix.

try:

#Quantum GIS Launchpad Package Archive
#Long Term Support - LTS 1.0.2
#deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/stable/ubuntu jaunty main
#deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/stable/ubuntu jaunty main

#Non LTS 1.x
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstable/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstable/ubuntu jaunty main

and as root: (or sudo'd)

#qgis launchpad repo
apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 68436DDF

#ubuntugis launchpad repo
apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 314DF160

Some javascript/style in this post has been disabled (why?)
Maybe the best will be to uninstall all GIS packages (GRASS & QGIS) and then install it again from the sources you gave me.

Ahh, ok. Now I'm clear what you mean with ubuntuGIS. I
didn't known it before. I used these sources for installing
QGIS:
https://launchpad.net/~qgis/+archive/unstable

deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/unstable/ubuntu
YOUR_UBUNTU_VERSION_HERE main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/unstable/ubuntu
YOUR_UBUNTU_VERSION_HERE main

If there is a package source specially for Ubuntu-Users
which include some usefull GIS Programs I'd like to use it.
But I can't find package sources on ubuntuGIS. There is only
these remark: "This PPA does not contain any packages yet."

2 repos on launchpad, it's confusing I know. Also there is
Jachym's grass+gdal package repo in the mix.

try:

#Quantum GIS Launchpad Package Archive
#Long Term Support - LTS 1.0.2
#deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/stable/ubuntu jaunty main
#deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/qgis/stable/ubuntu jaunty main

#Non LTS 1.x
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstable/ubuntu jaunty main
deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntugis/ubuntugis-unstable/ubuntu jaunty main

and as root: (or sudo'd)

#qgis launchpad repo
apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 68436DDF

#ubuntugis launchpad repo
apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 314DF160
