I'm doing regular rummages through international news feeds on
thingsdear to us and came across this operation in Oregon.
http://www.abundancefarming.org/.
They evidently have designed a soil additive that resembles grape nuts
flakes and is a special kind of water binding starch. It holds water
in the soil, a handy thing in soil types where rainwater drains
through fast due to soil particle size. And it is even handier in arid
lands.
I tried to organize special google news feeds in two categories, Green
Technology and Sustainable Farming. Unfortunately these keywords are
still new, unlike 'business' or 'sports'.
That said, I'm finding cool stuff by checking the feed constantly and
I added a new feature to
http://sustainabilityumbrella.blogspot.com/that is like a digest of article links in various categories. I just
did two on the green economy, (lots of good news there) and
sustainable farming, (lots of good and interesting news there).
http://www.localharvest.org/ is also a great resource. You can pull up
Utah and find all the registered farms and related entities and add
your own projects if they aren't on there.
Hope you are all well. Remember, sustainability brings us together.
Your neighbors who you disagree with are still probably eager to
improve their lot and move out of the oil era. Sustainability builds
bridges while politics makes walls. A bridge is always a more
challenging structure. Anyone can befriend gravity, pile up stuff and
make a wall.
