Unable to edit each other's collections using Chandler Hub

AFAICT following the recent Cosmo/Hub service upgrade, my colleagues and I find that we're no longer able to edit each other's collections using the Hub.

Details: <https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12732> and <https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12737>.

Please, any thoughts on this?

I'd like to continue rolling out the Hub to my colleagues but the edit failures are a blocker.

Cheers

Hi, Graham

This reminds me a lot of:

<https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12291>

(& see also: <http://markmail.org/message/b75nsg4rtrj6xfck>).

I have a vague recollection that we switched the hub over to a new JVM
to fix an issue like this; however, I'm not 100% sure that's the case,
and I don't know whether the latest update is running the same JVM or not.

Thanks Grant

To <https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12732> I have added the view and edit ticket for a collection that we may use for test purposes.

That thread may be less similar. Christoffer Bruun could remove notes, and could triage (and the bug affected his collection); my colleagues and I can neither remove nor triage (and the bug seems to affect only edition of collections other than our own).

Considering Randy's comments re: JVM at <http://markmail.org/message/3hteuvnwojdzkqhn> I'll cc tickets 12732 and 12737 to Randy with an invitation to assign.

Regards
Graham

Really sorry to chase, but this bug (preventing colleagues from editing items in each others collections) has bitten us half-way through a roll out of Chandler Hub to everyone in my Centre, potentially embarrassing for me after steering everyone to the Hub. And our previous system only half wound down, and so on.

Please, anything I can do to help/expedite?

I'll spend as much time as possible in <irc://irc.freenode.net/#chandler> and <irc://irc.freenode.net/#cosmo> until this one is resolved, ping me there or drop me a line.

Many thanks
Graham

Discussed with Jared, <http://chandlerproject.org/script/getIrcTranscript.cgi?channel=cosmo&date=20090326&startTime=1000&endTime=1500>.

I'm totally flexible on approaches to this.

If it helps, I have hardware etc. to spare at my place of work, might be reasonably used in this situation.

Kind regards
Graham

Chandler Hub restart required/suggested (bug 12737 biting again)

AFAICT the current round of biting began a while ago, but I haven't been in IRC much to nudge anyone.

Jared, or anyone with privileges, could you do the honours please? Restart the server (with another kill -9 if required)?

Cheers

Hi, Graham

I restarted apache on hub: Let me know if that didn't work for you.

Chandler Hub restart required/suggested (Apache restart alone is probably not enough)

Still bugged, sorry.

Reading <https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12737> alongside its near neighbour <https://bugzilla.osafoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12732> (I suspect that the two sets of symptoms have a common cause) I think the implication is that something goes wrong in Java land ...

A long shot: which of the servers for Chandler Hub are headless?

<http://www.diigo.com/06wdn> for highlights from <http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/J2SE/Desktop/headless/>.

<http://www.nabble.com/file/p15360975/headlessmodewithouttherbi3.png> oddity at top left, and non-Chanlder context <http://pastie.textmate.org/590036>, remind me how things can look on a Mac OS X when things in Java land are not prepared for headless mode.

Sorry, I didn't restart the server correctly. Things should be better
now: I double-checked that I can make changes in a collection I access
via ticket.

According to the logs, the last restart worked for about a week. Maybe
I should add a cron job to do the restart once a day ...

I don't really understand the hub code or config well enough to be
sure, but I believe this isn't happening (no evidence of java
HeadlessExceptions, so far as I can tell). Also, I think this kind of
problem is more common on Mac OS X than on linux servers, where
virtual displays, etc, are commonplace.

The only thing I noticed from the logs is that the problem started to
happen on July 24, a day after some kind of package update, where a
lot of apache-related packages got installed/upgraded. I have no idea
whether this is at all relevant :o.

Sorry, not working here. Maybe the bug bit again sooner than we expected.

Was your double-check in Chandler Desktop, or the web UI to the Hub?

Thanks for the attention,
Graham
