UK local chapter

Dear All,

Tyler Mitchell has suggested I get in touch with you regarding the possibility of getting some web pages for the UK local chapter in the main OSGeo drupal instance. He suggests we might be able to have pages under the URL www.osgeo.org/uk/.

I'm really keen to maintain a very strong link between the chapter and the main OSGeo site, and to maintain consistent branding throughout, so to me this seems like the best way to do the local chapter site, rather than striking out on our own. However, if you feel that this is a bad idea for some reason, then don't hesitate to tell me so!

If this is OK, how would we proceed with this?

Many thanks

Jo

Hi,

Do you think it is better to get Local Chapter web site on the drupal osgeo
web site?

I was wondering about this as the Francophone Local chapter is building is own
website for our legal association (http://osgeo.gloobe.org/osgeo/ ). We are
using dokuwiki, but it seems not a problem to switch to a drupal framework.

What do the community and the webiste commitee think about this?

Regards,

Y.

I just wanted the committee here to discuss any concerns they might
have about hosting local chapter sites.  To date, most just use the
wiki or create something on their own server somewhere.  Giving one
or two leads from a local chapter access to drupal to create new
content is a simple process.

Any concerns?  If not, I will help get Jo lined up to make pages.
Really, the access rights are no different than those of our
translators, so it's pretty simple to set up.

Thanks for nudging on this Jo.

Tyler,

I think it is a fine idea for chapters to maintain a subarea on the
Drupal site.  I'd just like to see one primary contact volunteer
to join WebCom as a liason when this is done.

Best regards,

I like this idea, Jo and Tyler.

In OSGeo-es we've been talking about something similar and using OSGeo's
drupal seems a good solution to me.

Dear All,

For the UK chapter, I guess I'll be the primary contact for now, at least till we have our first AGM in June.

All the best

Jo

Okay, sounds good, I'll work with you offline to get set up and agree
on some standard path/url conventions.  I've just been experimenting
on my own drupal instance and see some good ways to handle it.
