Hello Plone UI and Documentation teams.

In following of our UI meeting during the Sorrento European Symposium, we would like to create a sort of guideline document for the usage of webelements in the UI of add-on products. If we have a certain document, hopefully Plone add-on products can become consistent in their use of things like:

   *

when to use dropdown menu's, checkboxes or radiobuttons

   *

when to use a tab or just an extra field in the default

   *

The OK / Cancel, Cancel / OK issue.

   *

What to do with large drop down menu's.

   *

How to fill in dates, via typing, calendars or whatnot.

   *

The use of textarea, textlines and such.

   *

Name. Is that last name, first name or both.

There are some tips written in the widget reference page, this can be used as well.

If it's possible, we would also like to see Accessibility guidelines, which can help think about blind or other handicapped users.

If we have created a nice list, with examples of usage, we would like to see it as an self-evaluation check on the add-on products page.

We would like to see this as a product made by the community, not just us, so we are looking for your help to create this document.

We are very interested in your thoughts about this subject. Any tips, additions, help or real life use cases, we thank you a lot.

Laurens Kling and Ralph Jacobs, Four Digits.

Hi Laurens,

Somebody wrote something similar to what you're proposing some time ago:
http://www.plone-es.org/documentacion/tutorial/12-errores-comunes-de-accesibilidad

It's in Spanish but I guess you can understand it using Google Translator or similar. The author started a translation in plone.org (http://plone.org/documentation/tutorial/12-common-accessibility-errors-in-plone/introduction) but didn't get too far.

Do you find this doc interesting?

Hello Israel.

Thanks for the document! Although I can't really read it, and don't have
permissions for the english page, I can understand what the list
intends. This is something we would like to see, a short list with links
to background information. This document can be a good basis. Are there
any Spanish people interested to pick this up? I don't think my
translation skills can do the trick.

greetings,

Laurens

Hello Laurens,

I'm really sorry for so late response. I've been busy with exams but now I'm free to work on Plone and other pet projects.

I've contacted the orignal author of the accessibility document and asked him about the state of the translation. If he doesn't have the time to translate it maybe we could try to find people from the Spanish community to work on the translation.

Anyway, if you want to start a document on your own document about UI, please feel free to do it! We can always add the contents of the Spanish accessibility document later.
