Today is the official opening of the National Convention.
Some of the highlights from the joint session.
The manager speakers (and there were 3 of them) was the usual rah rah speech. Nothing new there.
Danny Davis (D-Illinois 7) was the keynote speaker. He didn't speak to much about what is going on in DC, but he did talk about hope and the future.
One thing of note, they did a very nice tribute to the troops with a video presentation set to Lee Greenwood's "God bless the USA".
They had a PRC Commissioner talk about what was going on at the Postal Regulatory Commission.
Then cam the usual speeches from GMAC and APCU along with the the members of the year (both association and auxiliary).
The afternoon session started with the adoption of the standing rules. No changes to the rules were made.
Bob Pickleshimer went to the Mic to challenge the ruling that he couldn't appeal a decision on changes made to the constitution. It went to the floor and the chair's decision stood.
Clifford Dailing gave the financial report after a motion passed to dispense with the reading of the officer's report.
Then came the report of the CPA.
What I forgot is that there was a legislative report given. Details in the Aug 4 Update.
The day ended with the membership and editor awards.
We did receive the constitution changes and resolutions reports which we will start debating on Wed afternoon. We have 15 Constitution changes and close to 300 resolutions to go through so the next few days are going to be rough.
Until tomorrow......
