Hi Folks,

I'd like to announce the iGoogle Quick Entry widget.

Synopsis: if you use Google's personalized homepage, you can easily add
notes to any of your Chandler Hub collections.

To add the widget, go to:

http://www.google.com/ig/adde?moduleurl=widgets.osaf.us/google_entri.xml

For more info, see the blog post:

http://blog.chandlerproject.org/2008/05/01/adventures-in-gadget-land/

Give it a try!  Feel free to report problems here or in Bugzilla's Cosmo
-> Widgets component.

Sincerely,
Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey,

Congrats and Thanks! I love the iGoogle QE widget...soon, I'm sure, we
will all wonder how we managed without it.

One question...items added via the iGoogle QE widget appear at the
bottom of the Now section in the Hub table and then on sync appear at
the top of the Now section in the Chandler Desktop. My expectation was
that new items would appear at the top of the Now section on the Hub,
same as the Desktop's behavior for new items. Is that a Hub or QE widget
difference?

It's a Hub bug, bug 11851, which as it happens is near the top of my
work list (see http://chandlerproject.org/Planning/WebWorkQueue). :)

A new quick entry application: choice of source code, choice of environment (AIR, Titanium etc.)

I'd like to have, for use by my co-workers, a comparable quick entry application based on (I guess) Adobe AIR or Titanium.

Already achieved, by clipping from the widget for iGoogle:

<http://tinyurl.com/yk79prf> highlights the reference to source code for the iGoogle widget.

In addition, there's <http://chandlerproject.org/Projects/ChandlerQEforAndroid> (referred from <http://www.heikkitoivonen.net/android/chandlerqe/>.

So, choices:

* is AIR the way to go, or should we lean towards Titanium?†

* which of the two sources might make a better starting point?

Thanks for any advice.

Regards
Graham

As background: a colleague recommends Yammer, which is fine, and people like it, but it's limited by design†† and non-integrable.

I'd prefer an application that works with our chosen infrastructure, which includes Chandler Hub.

At the same time, I'm looking at StatusNet options.†††

I'm guessing you would like to have it on the desktop... I'd be temped
to just use PRISM (http://labs.mozilla.com/blog/2007/10/prism/) - you
could probably just use the existing google-widget as is...

Re <http://n2.nabble.com/-tp2110880p2110880.html> I already have it on the desktop of Mac OS X.

For other purposes (not limited to Chandler Project) I have long been seeking something that might be suitable for users of Windows, so the steering to Prism is perfect. Thanks!

I'd like to avoid the Google requirement. Just occasionally I find that the widget alone (without iGoogle) breaks, probably if both authentications (Chandler Hub and Google) are not satisfied in a timely manner:

Recreating the widget is easy enough with Safari in Mac OS X, but I'd prefer a standalone widget or application that is less volatile.

Best,

Hurm. Yes, a plain html/javascript page which does what the google
widget does would be more agnostic wrt re-purposing. Like most things,
i've had something similar on my plate to create for some time, but,
time is time, and i never have enough.

But i'd bet that re-doing the google widget in a non-google way
wouldn't be _too_ time consuming... For somebody else!

HAhahahaha!

A plain HTML/JavaScript page, functionally equivalent to QE widget for iGoogle: BRIBERY (invitation to Google Wave Preview)

I want this!
(For my co-workers, more than for me :)
(And ultimately for all users of Chandler Project, of course :))

OK, it's time for shameless BRIBERY.

I have a very few spare invitations (nominations) for Google Wave Preview. I'm willing to give one to the first person who comes up with a suitably simple page for re-purposing. If two or three people combine efforts, one invitation per person. Muahahahahaha!

The page should ideally:

a) work well without a mouse

b) when re-purposed: fit neatly into a widget, not too large, that may float above the desktop (and possibly, above other windows; not necessarily constrained to the Dashboard of Mac OS X)

c) be tactile (I imagine a future touchscreen device from Apple).

A balance between compactness for (b) and size for (c) may be tricky, and there's some guesswork to the Apple side of point (c), so let's not treat (c) as an obstacle to development.

It may be that Jeffrey's design fits all three criteria already :)

Like most things, i've had something similar on my plate to create for some time, but, time is time, and i never have enough.

Hmm. Will Google Wave consume, or save you time? If you don't try it, you'll never know ;)

Page, please. Anyone. Pretty please. And if Google Wave Preview is not the bribery you want, then I might find something more interesting, less nebulous. Chat to me off-list.

Yours shamelessly,
Perrin, G.

PS, dreaming ludicrously that someone from Apple will read this post and send me a future-device for evaluation subject to NDA.

I know you've already done this, but could you post links to the
source/any info about the existing google widget, so that would-be
implementors have something to work from?

Source for the widget for iGoogle is at
<http://svn.osafoundation.org/server/widgets/> and
<http://tinyurl.com/googlewave-chandler-007> is an enhanced view of this topic with Jeffrey's 2008 announcement at the top.

Source for ChandlerQE for Android is described at
