Sophie is an estimated 14 years (ish). She has a couple of toes which have been broken at some stage and allowed to heal untreated. On her front paw, there is one in particular which sits at an angle and higher off the ground than the rest of her toes. Strangely enough, she's never had any problems with them, (touch wood).

I was just curious to know what your dogs' toes are like?

Hi WhippetWomen,
Just had a look at Danny's toes..they seem to be fine.
Most of Danny's claws are black, so its hard when i'm clipping them because i cant see where the quick is, have to be really careful, is it the same with you?
Love Becky xx

Hi there! When Murphy first came to live with us he used to yelp if we dried his back feet if he'd been out in the rain, couldn't see any problem with them I thought he was being a softy. Hes fine now when we touch his feet but we are also fostering Maggie and she screams if you even touch her back feet as if they are sore. Thought it could be with racing maybe  x

Sophie has white toes but black claws.

I've had differences of opinion with 2 vets about cutting them. In the first instance, the vet just cut her wonky claw so that it didn't touch the ground when she stands. She seemed to be continually catching it on things but no damage. The second told me off for leaving her claws too long. After advice from other, more experienced hound owners I did say I'd been told not to trim her nails too hard but...

Too late! With the first slice of the clippers, Sophie was squealing and limping around the room with a badly bloodied claw. And I got no satisfaction from saying "I told you so!"

(Fortunately, all the other vets have been really good).

my beautiful whippet/greyhound x had terrible trouble with her nails on one foot, the vet said it was from raising injuries that werent treated correctly. the nails grew at an angle and was constantly catching on things.
