Tibetan script input though EWTS (Extended Wylie Transcription System)

I was given the understanding that I could use SCIM to input Tibetan script via an EWTS. Is this the case? I use Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 Netbook Remix and have otherwise enabled my computer for Tibetan and Dzongkha. I would really appreciate assistance.

I have used SCIM for Tibetan input with the SUSE and Slackware
versions of Linux. You will have to have the m17n library and input
method. Make certain you are using the Tibetan font as well as having
your computer set to UTF-8 for "locale" language. Presently, I am not
in Tibet. Biggest problem I had was finding a keyboard map. I ended up
making a chart on a spreadsheet to keep as an aid for my helper (I do
not read or write Tibetan). Evidently the Amdo Tibetans do not need
some of the stuff that is included in m17n.

Ubuntu should be fine as it is reportedly one of the most
language-friendly distros. You CAN do it if you stick to it. It just
may take some tweaking.

Hope it helps,

Harry

I REALLY appreciate your email. I have done it. It has taken considerable application of resources and isolation of variables, play, fortitude and prayer to accomplish, but I may now type with bo-ewts. I am progressing a learning Classical Tibetan resource on Wikiversity.

I pray Firefox 3.0 & 3.5 (Ubuntu) fix the bug soon so i will be able to view Tibetan script in my browser of choice rather than Opera. Yes I wanted a keyboard map but couldn't find one. Interestingly, I found the Tibetan EWTS 2.0 SCIM release documentation from  Virginia University on a wepage that was unstable. I couldn't make a dynamic link to attach to it so I extracted the document, published it and have uploaded it on my Scribd account. I may make a keyboard map for the resource I am progressing. If I do I will direct a copy in your direction.

May all be  auspicious!

I forgot a lot of how I set up Tibetan from scratch. Slackware Linux
had a fellow incorporate SCIM in version 12.2. One gets lazy when the
work is done for them. I still remember doing key match combinations
based on a couple of key maps that I could find. Somehow, I did get
the rascal. If I find that map, will send it to you for a sort of
