I have approx 40,000 grand in the tsp. If i want to change it to a Roth how
do I do this and has anyone done this.Do they take the taxes out
of the 40,000 or do they take the taxes out of my payroll?
If they take the taxes out of the payroll........Is it in increments or
one full sum and what would the taxes be on 40,000.
Allot of questions but when you pull it up on line all it
tell you to do is get a financial adviser. Anyone have
knowledge with this...........looking for help.

Thanks,
Jan

I would guess that they have to take some kind of taxes out.
If you are doing your roth at a bank, you should be able to call the person who does it and ask them.

You will be taxed on the amount you have on the account, and  when you file your income tax, that is where you will pay UNCLE SAM.  Hope that help.

I am thinking that you can only put so much $$ in a ROTH in any given year...Like maybe only $6,000. I like my TSP, the ROTH isn't going to match any of your funds. FREE MONEY!!

Guys, the TSP does not have the Roth option yet....  It is making its way through
Congress, but as of right now, it is not available..  Last I heard, they were hoping
it might be available at the first of next year.....

I had a separate IRA outside of TSP that I converted to a ROTH when it was first introduced.

From what I remember, my tax liability was spread out over a five year period.

As you have read from other posters, the ROTH for TSP accounts is not yet available. I'm sure that information concerning tax liabilities will be published, when and if ROTH TSP is implemented.
