Translation of a simple csound orchestra

Hello !
I'm learning supercollider after years of using csound. I'm having trouble translating this orchestra to supercollider.

Hi Wouter,

This makes sense. If I want to try the classes again, I'll go about it the traditional way. The constructor window just saves a lot of time at the beginning of the process.

James: I do not have access to that machine at the moment. I will post something tonight when I do.

Hi Scacinto,

I have experienced similar problems in the past. The thing you
describe happens when a faulty Pen function is used in a UserView.
Instead of producing an error in the post window it gets sc in a
strange state where all graphics are messed up. It is a nasty bug that
is not very programmer-friendly; I wish it would just produce error
messages..

I can imagine that the Round/Smooth classes have these kind of
problems in the constructor window, because I never tested them with
it. I also don't know that the constructor window does with views
internally (honestly I've never used it..), and I am surprised they do
show up in there. Certainly RoundView should not be there, as it is an
abstract class. I have no time to investigate now, but hope that
clears up something. Do you have the problems also with other (non-
round/smooth) views?

Can we see the code you've generated using the constructor?

Does the same weird behavior happen if you copy the constructor code, quit and relaunch sc, and then run it right after the restart?

I can also confirm that hangs also occur when working with the construction gui window on a different machine, a ppc machine with a different OS. These are different than the crashes on my Macbook Pro. The PPC machine and earlier build simply hang after attempting to run code generated using the Constructor window, esp. code that involves the round/smooth classes. What happens is that the gui pops up as expected, but the buttons do not appear. At this point all seems well, but the mouse pointer goes into "text entry" mode and never returns, the gui window is responsive, but all other windows in SC are not. files can be saved, but the program gui is messed up such that you can't really see what you're doing. The program will not crash however; it will continue to run half-operational.

Has anyone else had these problems?

Does this also include vector graphics for printing? Currently PlotWindow doesn't use UserView for plotting, but plots on a window via drawHook, because this makes good printouts. You may pass in a UserView to have it plotted on.

(a side issue is that we should unify the semantics between UserView and Window: drawHook vs. drawFunc and also between CompositeView and Window concerning .parent.

I think perhaps there is something wrong with this. I have a two year
old MBP, and (with a development build mind you!) it only goes to
about 30 each when I drag it back and forth as fast as possible. MP
shouldn't be that much slower.

The only supercollider-related code I have put on github (or anywhere
else) is my clone, with some minor changes ("improvements" as I would
call them, but the original author disagreed) of NanoControl.sc. Github
is down at the moment so I can't include a url, but if you really want
to have a look I bet searching for NanoControl will work. :)

But of course - move to the top of the region, beginning of line, Ctrl-space, move the the end of the region, beginning of the line, type M-x replace-rectangle, and select <tab> as what to replace it with - since your rectangle has zero width you are just inserting a rectangle on every line. This works anywhere in the line, which is great for repetitive code that is layed out in a uniform manner (ie. not yet refactored, or explicitly repeated for optimization reasons). there are also kill-rectangle and yank-rectangle which should be easy enough to figure out.

Shift-leftclick on the screen should let you pick a new font. With emacs23 this was changed from setting the font for all of emacs to a buffer by buffer setting.

I'm pretty sure emacs gets its tabbing behavior from the mode it's in. If you want to explicitly insert a tab, you can use C-q <TAB>. However, I've found that scel's handling of tabs is actually pretty kick ass, with only a couple of exceptions here and there!

Also, selecting a region and pressing tab will indent everything in that region according to what's specified for the mode. There's probably a way to explicitly add a tab to the beginning of every line in a region, but I'm not sure.

- After reducing the font size (for my 600px-high netbook monitor), I got more lines in emacs by:

- A question/suggestion - ~/.emacs enables skeleton pair insertion for ` and <, which is not really helpful for SC syntax. This is on puredyne - not sure if that's a typical default or something that scel sets.

- cpu intensive - for occasional use it's ok, but in the last example
from scd file, when I drag the slider I have 100% on both cores (2yr
old MB)

- editing: this interesting feature is quite buggy now - when dragging
mouse with pressed button not every consecutive value is set, values
are set not under the pointer. Your plotview bears a resemblance to

OK. i have to amend this thread to reflect that working with the GUI Construction window for any period of time (usually takes less than 2 minutes) results in a crash of SC3. I've attached the crash report. Is this expected behavior -- or a known issue?

Here is a suggestion for a new standard plot window in SuperCollider. If it doesn't perform well on different computers/systems, it could also be made a Quark. It would be good to hear how it works on netbooks/PPC and on SwingOSC.

PlotWindow is easily extendible from with SC, gives level information and supports plots of up to three dimensions. It can be embedded in UserViews and supports specs for both axes.

I have now called the plot methods plot2, as not to interfere with what exists under plot. But if it works fine, it would perhaps be a good idea to replace the old one.

Just a warning so no-one gets any shocks: later this week I'm
intending to rearrange the svn trunk of supercollider a little, as
discussed in a recent sc-dev thread.

Nothing will be deleted but the main build scripts will move slightly
(eg the mac xcode stuff will move into a 'mac' folder). The various
