Stop Raring!!

Hi All!

I am leading a campaign to stop raring on torrent sites, and i am looking for the support of the community and of course support from the great scene releasers like KLAXXON will be gladly appreciated.

You ask why?

Well, in a nutshell, raring is deprecated, for many reasons, once upon a time you may rar torrent in order to have a consistency check, but that is no longer necessary because all torrent programs do this automatically nowadays.

Besides, you never know whats inside a couple of rars, you can not preview a rar file, being more vulnerable to fakes.

And unraring takes time and space, with HD files weighing at 8gb you need 8gb more to watch the file, thats 16gb per movie, and waiting until it all decompress in order to enjoy the file.

And i know KLAXXON does not multi rars his releases.

So please if anything of this makes sense to you, come by my blog and show your support!

I hear you, it is annoying, but people do that so if one of the archives gets corrupted you can just re-download a 14mb archive file instead of the whole 700mb movie. Also, if you get a virus scanner with real time protection like Avast, Avira, or AVG (Those are free) it will pop up with an alert as soon as an infected archive starts downloading. So sorry for not seeing eye to eye with you, but even though RAR files are annoying, they do serve a important purpose...at least to me anyway lol.

Every program that allows you to download torrents has a system that checks, most likely, automatically if the file gets corrupted, The file is downloaded in CHUNKS of some megabits, so is the same as if you had 70 14mb rars for a 700 mb film, if it gets corrupted it will only download the CHUNK that is corrupted and not the whole file.
 Another issue with RARING is that if I download a 7gb HD Movie that is comprised of Rars i wont, most likely, seed it back, because in order to do so i would have to preserve those useless 7gb of rars AND the other 7gb that is the movie, you download a couple of movies and you do the math, soon your 500gb drive is full and half of it is because of the moronics rars.

So raring prevents people from seeding too, and that is not only stupid, but really hurts the community.

RARs make sense for usenet and rapidshit, where there's a limit on the size of an individual upload.  They also make sense for a payload that is large but compresses well.

But the original poster is right -- for torrents of movies/TV they make absolutely no sense.  BitTorrent chunks the data automatically (that's kinda a central point of bittorrent), and video files don't compress worth shit because they're already a compressed format.

When I download a RAR'd video, as soon as it finishes I unRAR it and drop off the swarm.  I don't need a fucking duplicate sitting around of everything I download just so I can seed into the swarm of some braindead asshole who thinks RAR'ing everything serves some kind of purpose.

RAR for usenet.  unRAR for torrents.  Is that so hard to understand?
