I've found that mixing distilled white vinegar and brown sugar makes a great salad dressing.  It reminds me of that strawberry vinegar salad, with almonds.

Just use a spoonful or two of brown sugar; add to taste, rather.

This also works well for a fish stick dip.

I originally tried this with rice vinegar, and while I thought it tasted great, it had a funky smell (it doesn't have the smell with distilled white vinegar).

I tried this, it's cool!

You know what I really liked when I was a kid (and still do)? Have you tried mixing olive or sunflower oil with salt, paprika and fresh herbs like oregano, basil, etc.? I would toast bread and dip it in it. I love the taste... And it's the easiest mixture to make. Maybe a bit on the unhealthy side because of the oil... but it still tastes good. :)
