Hello to all and thanks for reading....I am fairly new to Audacity,
and absolutely new to this list.

If this has been asked and answered before I ask for your tolerance.

I am looking for a list of shortcuts for functions with Audacity. For
example, I just (accidentally) discovered that if I click on the
"time" portion of Audacity when working with an open file, it will go
to the play function.

This is one dandy feature and shows a great deal of thought went into
programming in this software. I am using this all the time now and am
wondering what other functions are available that I don't know about.

I searched the help files, and unless it is going right by me, I
cannot find where this very useful function is explained.

What else am I missing??

Also, I would like to know if I can make Audacity go into any of its
modes by hitting a given key rather than clicking with a mouse on
functions like play and record and stop, etc.

Any help appreciated, and I apologize for asking these questions if
they have been asked before.

Howard

I would be very interested in a short cut list as well please, if there
is one.

Also is there some where that tells you what the special FX do please?

Howard, you're actually using our Beta version of Audacity. The Beta has
many features not in the current (1.2.x) series, but because it's Beta it
has no inbuilt help and its documentation is unfinished. "Quick-Play
range" is briefly described here:
http://www.audacityteam.org/manual/index.php?title=Timeline

Not yet mentioned there is that you can lock the Quick-Play Region
(or a normal selection region drawn in the waveform), so that only that
region will play (Edit > Play Region > Lock).

Feel free to browse around the manual online, or download the single
page version and install lt in the Audacity help browser as described
at:
http://www.audacityteam.org/manual/index.php?title=Temporary_HTML_Manual_Export

If you click Edit > Preferences (Audacity > Preferences on a Mac) and
then the Keyboard tab, there is a list of default shortcuts. For instance, R
will start recording and Spacebar plays or stops. You can change the
shortcuts if you wish, as described at:
http://www.audacityteam.org/manual/index.php?title=Keyboard_Preferences

Many shortcuts are also discoverable by looking in the menus, where the
shortcut is listed opposite each command.

You can search previous posts to this list here:

and can search posts to all our mailing lists here:

My reply just made to Howard should cover that.

> Also is there some where that tells you what the special FX do please?

Assuming you are using a 1.2 version of Audacity, you can read this
at Help > Contents... then click on "Menu Bar" then "Effect Menu". Or
read the same in our online manual:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/manual-1.2/menu_effects.html

Suzy, if you wish to post to this list could you please subscribe to it,
using the form "Subscribing to Audacity-users" at:
https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/audacity-users

That would mean you would get the list postings by e-mail, and that
the other subscribers could see your posts and would have the chance
to reply to you. Otherwise, they won't see your posts unless they go
online to Nabble, or unless I manually send your post to the list as
I've done here. Thanks.

Yes, but only *after* I let it through from the Control Panel, as I said
I had done. If someone sends to the list address who is not subscribed,
that's the only way it will get through. Otherwise, you'd see a nice lot
of spam every day :=)
